Ikjyot “Joty” Rehal, M.Ed., RCC,

Registered Clinical Counsellor

(She/Her)

I’m Ikjyot “Joty” Rehal, a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with an M.Ed. in Counselling Psychology from Simon Fraser University. Most of the clients that work with me struggle with experiencing loneliness, overwhelming emotions, anxiety, hopelessness, depression, workplace burnout, past sexual or childhood trauma, and challenges with their relationships. I am honored to work with people who struggle with their relationships, as I recognize how lonely it can feel for people. After my masters degree, I received additional training in Gottman Method, which is evidence-based and credible technique to help individuals who struggle relationally to have more closer and connected relationships. I am also trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), which I use to help my clients learn coping strategies to better manage overwhelming and “big” emotions they experience. Other than that, since I find helping individuals heal their trauma and manage triggers so rewarding, I have also attended training for Internal Family System for Complex trauma.

Most of the times my clients arrive to therapy feeling alone, overwhelmed and don’t know how to cope. They have tried their best to deal with their challenges, and sometimes to ignore them, but there is a feeling of “stuckness”. Together with you, I help facilitate coping, which brings a sense of clarity, relief and empowerment for my clients. Healing is rarely a linear journey. However, I help my clients to hold, unpack, and process the difficult experiences they may be having so that they don’t have to do this alone, and so that they develop confidence within themselves knowing that they have skills to cope with challenges.

As I’m based in the Lower Mainland, I work virtually only. In order to attend counselling sessions with me, you’ll require access to high speed internet connections, a working microphone and a webcam and a quiet, private space so that you will not be disturbed. Phones, tablets and computers are all suitable devices for this modern medium. Headphones are recommended, though not required.
